Are you driven by ambition to make a difference to young people’s lives through sport and movement?

Do you show respect for every learner, adapting your approach to help them thrive?

If so, Queen Katharine Academy could be your next exciting career step.

This role is ideal for someone who understands the powerful impact of movement, physical activity and strong coaching relationships in supporting young people with SEND and social, emotional and mental health needs.

Your role:

As an Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will lead engaging, structured sports, sensory and SEMH interventions for small groups and individual students across KS3 and KS4. You will use physical activity as a powerful tool to support emotional regulation, reduce anxiety, improve confidence and help students develop stronger relationships with their peers.

You will act as both a coach and mentor, building positive, professional relationships with students who may find mainstream lessons challenging. Through your work, students will begin to develop resilience, teamwork, self-awareness and a sense of achievement.

Alongside your intervention work, you will support learning across the secondary school day, working closely with teachers to adapt activities, reinforce expectations and enable all students to access their education. You will help guide students through transitions, unstructured times and reintegration into lessons, ensuring they feel supported and ready to succeed.

You will work collaboratively with teachers, SEND and pastoral teams, contributing to a shared approach that prioritises student wellbeing, safety and progress, while modelling the values of respect, ambition and responsibility in everything you do.

To thrive in this role, you will have experience working with young people, ideally within education, sports coaching or youth work. You will feel confident leading physical activities and using sport as a way to engage, motivate and support students with SEMH needs. You will be calm, resilient and able to respond positively in challenging situations, using your relationship-building skills to de-escalate and encourage reflection.

A strong understanding of SEND and SEMH is important, but just as crucial is someone who is flexible, reflective and committed to helping every student succeed.
