Technical Buyer

Location: Birmingham

Salary: Negotiable depending on experience

Hours: Monday to Thursday 0730 – 1600, Friday 0730 - 1230

The Role

They are seeking a Buyer to join their dynamic team.

 In this role, you will be responsible for managing the procurement of materials and services essential for their manufacturing processes. Your expertise will play a crucial role in maintaining their high standards of quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement process for materials and components necessary for production.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to forecast material needs based on production schedules.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate logistics to ensure timely delivery of materials.
  • Utilize SAP ERP systems to track purchases and manage supply chain operations.
  • Supply quotes for bids.
  • Identify and evaluate potential suppliers to ensure alignment with quality, cost, and delivery requirements.
  • Lead negotiations to secure favourable terms, including pricing and delivery schedules, and review contracts to verify buy costs.
  • Create, distribute, and expedite purchase orders to ensure timely procurement of materials and services.
  • Manage procurement of non-production items, ensuring timely availability for operations.
  • Assess supplier performance based on delivery timelines, cost-effectiveness, and quality standards.
  • Oversee the process for handling rejected items and returns, ensuring compliance with company policies.
  • Maintain accurate item card data, including lead times and buy prices, to support procurement activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Buyer or in a similar procurement role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong product knowledge of technical materials including electrical/electronic components essential.
  • Strong understanding of material specifications and industry regulations including quality control. 
  • Strong negotiation skills with a track record of successful supplier management.
  • Familiarity with supply chain management principles and practices.
  • Experience using SAP ERP or similar procurement software is essential.
  • Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
