The organisation supports UK and international law enforcement by processing criminal records for the purposes of public protection, safeguarding and worldwide community safety.

They are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Systems Development Advisor, within a national policing unit.

The Role

A Systems Development Advisor plays a crucial role in enhancing the international exchange of criminal convictions and improving database services within the organisation’s Criminal Records Office.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing and refining database requirements to support criminal records processing.
  • Liaising with database suppliers for development, testing, and implementation.
  • Providing professional guidance and training to staff using new databases.
  • Participating in business improvement projects to enhance efficiency.
  • Generating statistical and information reports for stakeholders.
  • Representing the organisation at meetings and conferences to promote criminal records exchange

A Systems Development Advisor needs a mix of technical expertise, analytical thinking, and communication skills to excel in the role.

Some key skills include:

  • Database and IT proficiency – Understanding database structures, testing, and implementation.
  • Problem-solving and analytical thinking – Identifying system improvements and troubleshooting issues.
  • Project management – Coordinating development projects and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Communication and stakeholder engagement – Liaising with law enforcement agencies and database suppliers.
  • Training and mentoring – Supporting staff in using new systems effectively.

International Services require a Systems Development Adviser to support the business area in the on-going management and development of existing and new databases and other relevant software.
