Outdoor Education Instructor & Technician

Location: Cambridge

Salary: £25,000—£28,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.

The Role

The School is seeking to appoint an Outdoor Education Instructor and Technician, to start in September 2025. The post holder will be an energetic and hard-working team player amongst their 13-strong Outdoor Education Department team. They will assist in managing the purpose-built equipment stores at the Outdoor Education Centre. Responsibilities include conducting inspections, inventory checks, maintenance activities and issuing/ returning equipment. The role also requires the setup and clearing of equipment for activity sessions daily.

The post holder will contribute to equipment procurement planning in conjunction with the Outdoor Education Operations Manager.

The successful candidate will have full involvement across the breadth of Outdoor Education provision at The School. They will work across the School Exploration Society’s provision, games programme delivery, extra-curricular clubs and climbing provision. They will participate in most Outdoor Education trips and must have a passion for expeditionary work.

Work is divided between activity instruction, trip participation and administration/ maintenance work. The latter will comprise approximately 50% of termtime work.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in managing the extensive Outdoor Education stores building and external storage    areas.
• Support the management of medical supplies in cooperation with the Outdoor Education   Medical Technical Advisor.
• Support the management of cutting tools in line with the Cutting Tools Competency Scheme.
• Conducting ongoing repairs and ensuring all equipment is issued in a good state of repair.
• Conducting inventory checks.
• Conducting PPE inspections (subject to training).
• Overseeing the issue and return of all equipment before and after trips and activity sessions.
• Setting up and returning equipment for activity sessions during and after the school day.
• Support the Outdoor Education Operations Manager with procurement of equipment.
• Instructing in a wide range of disciplines across Outdoor Education provision.
• Maintenance and servicing of all vehicles, trailers and manual handling equipment.

Skills and Qualifications

• Prior experience of climbing and/or climbing instructional qualifications.
• Experienced expedition leader.
• Be able to demonstrate flexibility and skill when working in a busy school and department.
• Excellent organisational, inter-personal and communication skills.
