Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative
Location: Based in Stepney Green, travelling daily to HMO properties across London
Salary: £33,000 – £38,000, depending on skills, trade knowledge and experience
Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time (Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:00)
We're looking for an experienced, multi-skilled maintenance operative to join our in-house team, looking after a portfolio of HMO properties across London. You'll handle day-to-day reactive maintenance alongside small projects — partitions, refurbishments, garden work — keeping our properties safe and well-maintained for tenants.
Company van and tools provided.
What you'll be doing
- Reactive repairs across London HMOs: basic carpentry, minor plumbing, minor electrics, painting, decorating and cosmetic refurbishment
- Small projects such as stud partitions and general refurbishment works
- Quick fixes across multiple properties per day within your patch: tiling, flooring repairs, cosmetic updates, garden and grounds maintenance
- Diagnosing issues on-site and fixing them right first time, to a high standard
- Working from job tickets, planning your day and materials in advance
- Logging job status with photos via Fixflo and other systems
- Sourcing and purchasing materials within company procedures, keeping cost and waste down
- Working to H&S standards, PPE included
- Leaving tenants' homes clean, tidy and respected
- Occasionally pairing with a colleague on larger projects, sharing a company vehicle
What you'll need
- Proven experience as a multi-skilled tradesperson/maintenance operative in residential property — HMO, social housing or private rented sector experience is a strong plus
- Strong hands-on ability in at least two core trades: carpentry/partitions, painting/decorating, basic plumbing/electrics
- Comfortable working solo or as part of a team
- Good communication skills and confidence with basic apps/IT for job reporting
- Full UK manual driving licence (Category B or above), no more than 3 points — essential. This role involves driving company vehicles, and applicants must meet the eligibility criteria of our commercial fleet insurance policy; full details confirmed at offer stage
Nice to have
- Experience in HMOs, student lets or other multi-occupancy housing
- Trade qualifications (e.g. NVQ, basic electrical, H&S certificates)
What's in it for you
- Company van and tools provided
- Overtime available
- Fresh fruit and a genuinely friendly office environment
- Birthday off, a Wellness Day, and an annual eye test
- Employee discounts package
- Extra annual leave and sick pay that builds with length of service
- Summer and winter company parties, plus regular team socials
