Higher Level Teaching Assistant

Salary: FTE £28,598 - £31,022 per annum, Pro Rata £22,432 - £24,774 per annum, including an allocation for holiday pay

Vacancy Type:Permanent, full-time, 33.75 hours per week, term-time plus 1 week, to start February 2026

THE ROLE

Framingham Earl High School is a member of the Sapientia Education Trust (SET). SET is an expanding multi-academy trust with 13 primary and 9 secondary schools.

We are looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic person with high standards and the ability to communicate and interact effectively with others as part of our school as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA).

HLTAs lead on implementing high quality provision for all SEND students within the classroom and through delivering 1:1 or small group interventions, where necessary. HLTAs support the SENDCO in their role and work closely with Teaching Assistants (TAs) to support meeting the needs of students within the school.

This SEND HLTA role is a full time position, 2 days allocated specifically for overseeing students with Sensory and Physical needs and 3 days to add capacity to HLTAs and TAs.

This specific role will be focused on supporting specific medical needs of learners, whilst also providing academic support for other learners who fall within the remit of Sensory and Physical.

It is essential that the postholder is able to carry out the listed duties with sensitivity, subtlety and a calm approach to ensure that the privacy and dignity of the individual student is upheld and maintained at all times.

The ability to use British Sign Language would be an advantage as there will be some one to one and small group work with deaf students.

Due to the medical needs of a specific learner, the post holder will be required to fulfil the following as part of the role: Gastrostomy Care

Medical training requirements

• Attend gastrostomy training, provided by allocated NHS team (this will include theory session and hands on session with a mannequin)
• Be assessed as confident in gastrostomy care
• Attended annual updates on gastrostomy training

Gastrostomy care requirements

• Routine checks to ensure the gastrostomy button remains in situ
• If required, be able to attach gastrostomy giving set, and safely administer fluids/feed as per plan
• Feedback to carer if site looks red, inflamed, oozing, or leaking or concerns noted
• Be confident in covering the site with gauze and tape, and telephoning carer/ambulance/transporting to hospital, if the device comes out, to ensure a new device is inserted within a timely manner (1 hour timeframe)

Please note the above Gastrostomy medical needs duties will be line managed and supported fully by the Community Nursing Team currently Abigail Martin, Children's Community Nurse, Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust

Tracheostomy Care Requirements

• Visually monitor the learner at all times for any signs of respiratory distress which may indicate a blocked or displaced tracheostomy tube.
• Promote learner independence within the school setting.
• Safely perform suctioning of the tracheostomy tube to assess patency.
• Be competent to complete a full tracheostomy tube change if required in an emergency.
• Administer saline nebulisers as required.

Please note the above Tracheostomy medical needs duties will be line managed and supported fully by Fay Garlick, Paediatric Tracheostomy Support Practitioner, Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as documented on the learner’s EHCP.

All training will be provided as part of this role
