Senior Technical Manager Location: Multi Sites (Furness Vale / Rochdale / Bradford) Salary: c£65k (Negotiable - depending on experience) OTE £80k inc. car allowance + benefits Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full Time The Group is a long-established leader in plastics manufacturing, a family run business with a passion for what they do! Operating from multiple sites in the North-West, they are on a journey of continuous improvement in all parts of their business, including enhancing their manufacturing processes with the implementation of automation. To that end, they are now seeking a Senior Technical Manager who can provide departmental leadership and drive technical innovation. The Role Reporting to the Group MD, the purpose of this newly created role is to provide leadership and strategic direction in the technical department, bridging sales and production, driving innovation, and ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality products to customers. You will directly manage, mentor, and develop the project engineering team, fostering a cohesive and high-performing department, while overseeing the entire technical project lifecycle from initial customer enquiry through production handover and post-production support, translating & communicating design requirements effectively. You will also lead the exploration of new manufacturing technologies and, while establishing robust systems to track department workload, project status, and key performance indicators. Skills and Qualifications To be shortlisted for this role, you will need strong strategic and operational project management skills and, as a results-oriented leader, you will unify teams, implement robust processes and act as the vital link between customer enquiry and successful production moulding. Experience in plastics manufacturing is essential, together with knowledge of automation including robotic cells and CNC routers. Rotational moulding, metal fabrication, and process development skills are all advantageous (e.g. automotive standards like PPAP). You will have excellent communication & interpersonal skills, plus the ability to mentor and develop team members. You will be process-driven, disciplined, resilient, and service-oriented, focusing on overall company success rather than individual recognition, while driving continuous improvement and inspiring confidence across the business. Extensive engineering, plastics technology, or manufacturing experience is essential, with professional certifications such as Project Management or Lean Manufacturing considered advantageous.
