Gloucestershire Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA) Support Coordinator

Location: Gloucester, GL1 3ND

Area Covered: Gloucester

Salary: £24,956 per annum ​rising to £25,350 per annum on successful completion of probation

The Role

The role is to support recent or non-recent survivors of rape or sexual abuse who wish to access the Gloucester ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) service, as well as supporting the delivery of the Trauma Stabilisation Programme for all clients who are within and outside of the Criminal Justice process seeking support.

The post holder will maintain survivor engagement for adults and children in the Criminal Justice System process until the client is allocated ISVA as well as maintaining effective communication between Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and ISVA services

The role is also to support a victim through the referral pathway from crisis to recovery and ensuring that the victim feels supported, listened to and believed.

The post holder will be the nominated case lead and point of contact for the victim to allow smooth transition from SARC to other services, whilst supporting the safety planning, monitor risk (including escalation to high risk and safeguarding concerns)

This role will work proactively as part of the ISVA Team and will have respect for the diversity of the community in which the service works to ensure the services is accessible to all.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support recent or non-recent survivors of rape or sexual abuse who wish to access the Gloucester ISVA (Independent Sexual Violence Advisor) service
  • Support the delivery of the Trauma Stabilisation Programme for all clients who are within and outside of the Criminal Justice process seeking support
  • Maintain survivor engagement for adults and children in the Criminal Justice System process until the client is allocated ISVA
  • Maintain effective communication between Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC) and ISVA services
  • Support a victim through the referral pathway from crisis to recovery
  • Ensure that the victim feels supported, listened to and believed
  • Be the nominated case lead and point of contact for the victim to allow smooth transition from SARC to other services
  • Support the safety planning, monitor risk (including escalation to high risk and safeguarding concerns)
  • Broker recovery support packages (recovery programs, therapy, peer support, onward referral)
  • Confirm clients are seen by aftercare services.
  • Signpost/refer and broker access to information advice and support.
  • Provide the continuity of support to all victims who have not been assigned a front-line support worker
  • Maintain accurate and confidential electronic case management records and contribute to performance monitoring for the service
  • Continually assess and regularly review the victim risk and needs and use a Trauma informed Approach to keeping victims and their families safe
  • Manage and review own case load ensuring the service is user centred, cost effective, efficient and responsive to the needs of clients and professionals
  • As part of the ISVA Support Coordinator (ISC) team, provide administrative support for the ISVA service, including creating purchase orders, responding to enquiries, taking messages for the team, and assisting with other tasks related to the effective administration of the service.
  • Provide support using a range of communication modes such as telephone, WhatsApp, Text, E-mail, or face to face at the Gloucester SARC office.

The ISVA Support co-ordinator will need to be highly motivated, flexible and able to work unsupervised on a day-to-day basis holding a high volume of cases.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Full Driving licence
  • Literacy skills and experience working with databases
  • Evidence of IT and Computer Literacy Skills
  • Safeguarding Adults and Children Training
  • Supporting victims of sexual abuse, or working with vulnerable people
  • Have a good understanding of sexual assault including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their families
  • Understand safeguarding issues (children and vulnerable adults) and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues
  • Understanding the principles of risk assessment, safety planning and risk management for victims of sexual abuse and their children
  • Have excellent communication, negotiation and advisory skills, both written and verbal when interacting with a range of agencies and individuals
  • Handling confidential and sensitive information appropriately
