Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Gardener

Reporting to:Head Gardener

Main purpose of the role:The Gardener will assist the Gardens Team in providing a beautiful environment for pupils and staff to enjoy. The Garden Team is responsible for maintaining and developing the three school sites as well as residential properties.

Role Overview:

We are looking for a knowledgeable and hard-working Gardener to join our team at Brighton College. The successful candidate will be passionate and motivated in their work and able to work confidently alone and within a team. We are passionate about working sustainably and are continuously looking at ways to improve in this area. We expect work to be carried out to high standard, with an awareness of health and safety, as well as being mindful that we are in a school environment.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lawn care
  • Tree and shrub maintenance
  • Monitoring the health of all plants and greenspaces
  • Maintain herbaceous & mixed borders
  • Weeding, feeding and irrigation

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

  • Experience working in a similar environment
  • A valid driving license
  • A love of working outdoors
  • Experience using a wide range of horticultural machinery and powered hand tools
  • Strong manual skills
  • Creativity and an eye for detail
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team
  • Experience of identifying pests and diseases
  • Eagerness to learn and improve

Desirable

  • Experience working at a high-profile garden
  • RHS level 2 or equivalent qualification

Hours of Work:

You will be required to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday inclusive 7:45am – 4:15pm with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break. Occasional weekend work will be required to support College Open Mornings and Events in which time in lieu will be given.

Remuneration:

The salary for this role will be £26,458 - £27,800 per annum dependant on experience.

Holidays:

23 days (pro-rata), plus bank holidays increasing to 28 days (pro-rata) plus bank holidays after 2 years of service.
