Administrator 2 – Maternity Cover (Fixed-Term Contract)
Location: Dartmouth Guildhall Offices, Victoria Road, Dartmouth
Salary: SCP09 (£26,409) – SCP14 (£28,624)
Contract: Fixed-term for 14 months (maternity cover)
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week preferred (Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 4:30 pm)

Are you an organised, customer-focused professional with a flair for administration and public service? Dartmouth Town Council is seeking a friendly and efficient Administrator to join our small but busy team on a fixed-term maternity cover contract. This role offers a varied mix of office administration, property bookings management, reception cover, and digital communications — ideal for someone who thrives in a community-centered environment.
Key Responsibilities
General Office Administration

Act as a welcoming first point of contact via phone, email, and in-person

Provide admin support to the Town Clerk and Deputy Clerk

Handle council enquiries and direct them appropriately

Liaise with South Hams and Devon County Councils on relevant matters

Support project work and weekly planning for Council assets (Guildhall, Old Market)

Assist with Parish Online and the RFO during invoicing season (March/April)
Bookings Management

Manage bookings for council-owned properties and assets (e.g. Guildhall, Old Market, parks)

Liaise with hirers, ensure rules compliance, risk assessments, and post-event checks

Coordinate with caretakers and the Properties Team for setup and cleaning

Oversee inventory checks and manage associated correspondence
Digital Communications

Help manage the Council’s social media accounts and website content

Promote council events, assets, and bookings online

Collaborate with the Clerk and Deputy Clerk to maintain clear and timely public communications
Market & Boatfloat Support

Administer market bookings and trader records (e.g., insurance, licenses)

Coordinate gazebo/stall setup with the Market Supervisor

Assist in the management of the Boatfloat and boat parks
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong customer service and public-facing experience

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Experience using website software (e.g., WordPress) and social media
-
5 GCSEs A–C (or equivalent), including English & Maths
Desirable

Knowledge of the Dartmouth area

Experience in local government or a similar administrative setting

Ability to manage changing priorities and work both independently and in a team
