Salary: Grade 4 (SCP 12-17) £14.36 - £15.58 / hour

Hours per week: 28.75 - 32.5 hours dependent on position - see advert text

The Role

The City Council are looking to recruit Catering Supervisors to work in the school meals service .

There are 4 vacancies and the locations and weekly contracted hours are as follows:

  • (Sunderland) 30 hours / week
  • (Sunderland) 30 hours / week
  • (Sunderland) 32.5 hours / week
  • (Houghton-le-Spring) 28.75 hours / week

They are looking for experienced chefs / cooks / assistant cooks who are looking for the next step into managing a school kitchen .

This is a permanent role with a guaranteed minimum number of contracted hours, access to the Local Government Pension Scheme and opportunities for personal development and progression within the service 

Key Responsibilities

  • It is a hands on role and you will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of 2 main course meals as well as sandwiches / jacket potatoes , salads and desserts to pupils and school staff (daily meal numbers ranging anywhere between 90 – 280/ day).
  • You’ll be responsible for supervising the team of staff within the kitchen, overseeing all day to day kitchen and service matters as well as administration / paperwork duties such as food ordering, stock taking, completing wage returns etc. 

Skills and Qualifications

  • You will need to have had previous experience working in a cooking capacity (eg chef, cook)
  • Ideally you will have a cooking qualification (C&G 7061/2 / NVQ Level 2 or equivalent)
